this clever card game just ate Apples to Apples for lunch.

who knew hilarity would ensue when i went to spend an evening with some old college friends? someone pulled out Cards Against Humanity, and soon we were all red-faced and doing our best to keep our seats, much less not  spit beer out at each other. so impressed was i that i just bought my own deck via Amazon - CAH allows players-to-be to print their own cards from the site for free, but for $25, why not share the love and fiendish joy with the creators…

happily, no beer was harmed or wasted in the playing of this game.

puppies for breakfast.

jenga and i attended Puppies for Breakfast last weekend and had a blast!

i was surprised and impressed at how many breeds were represented… from dachshunds to german shepherds to cocker spaniels to large breed poodles and even some pointers, and i think i saw a finnish spitz! here are some of the belated pictures we (jenga gets credit for being my sometimes tripod quadripod) snapped, as promised – see the whole set on Flickr.

these handmade, fully utilitarian beauties are the work of Bill Holloway and Mauro Hernandez of Masterworks Wood & Design,  based in San Jose, California. each frame is carved from “urban lumber” or “salvaged timber”; wood from dying trees in cities or wood from buildings or other structures that are being torn down. Each bike is made-to-order, can be 8 ft long and weigh from 45 to 70 lbs and have been fully tested to “take a beating”. all stains, sealants and other finishes, which are applied by hand, are also animal, people and Eco-friendly.

Bespoke Global, which sources and sells hand-made pieces by carefully curated artisans, also sell these tandem two-wheeled sculptures through their website. so, just when you were pleased as local, organic home-squeezed punch about your love for mother earth, mother said, “you can always do better”.

OH MY GOD.

Just heard this story on news radio and had to pull over to share it. These sub human beasts should be thrown into a pit of vipers.

How can this be protected by the First Amendment?! The First Amendment protects speech, NOT conduct. The Founding Fathers would be weeping if they knew one of the most important protections we have was used to shield these disgusting sadists. They should be charged with animal cruelty, obscenity, and whatever else can be thrown at them. What a frightening, heartbreaking absence of empathy.

If people can treat animals like this and not be deservedly punished, I shudder to think of how we are going to improve the general safety of our country when it comes to preventing violence and getting justice for the wronged. In light of the recent tragedies in Boston and West, TX, this is just another disheartening low.
