reviewing gimmo etro‘s italian house of etro‘s menswear collection for spring/summer 2010 was such a pleasant task, even though it was too much color for my personal tastes. i was so pleased to see most of the models smiling! it’s so oft the norm to see both male and female models barrel down the runway with either fiercely aggressive expressions or ones of flat-lined apathy. it was a breath of fresh air to see their human side. although the collection already had a heavy paisley, flower-child feel, the end of the show cemented the hippie nod: all the models and kean etro, creative director of the family-owned fashion house, plus the backstage staff and techs flooded down the runway en masse, winking, waving, pointing, giving thumbs-ups, and generally hamming it up for the audience. a great removal from the usual solemn end-of-show march. note to models: yes, even you can look better with a smile.
