Brilliant. Billie Holiday’s Lady in Satin is one of the best albums i’ve ever heard. A stunning curtain call from one of the greatest jazz vocalists, you can hear her voice begin to disintegrate and its no surprise that she dies less than a year later after completion
i second will’s comment. i simply prefer billie holliday to ella. if their voices were ice cream ella’s would be the yummiest homemade vanilla, but billie’s? hers would be the gritty, nutty concoction you only get from taking chances in the scoop line.
i like hearing the glitches in her voice. it’s like a history you can hear…
