donate to help a dog!

my friend geena‘s jack russell mojo has recently developed a tumor!

anyone who has a dog (or any pet for that matter) knows how much we love them. it will cost her $400.00 for him to have surgery to have it removed – if you would like to help a college student save her canine companion, you can donate HERE. i’m sure i speak for her when i say anything helps!

stolen bike alert!

geena needs your help!

her bike was stolen in bryan/college station, and being a student, she needs it for school/general transportation.

what vile creature would choose to nab student’s bikes? we can’t even imagine, but with your watchful eyes, our sleuthing might reap reward all the sooner. if you are the sticky-fingered thief, just return it and say you “found” it. we won’t know. or care.

first, an appeal to your emotions:

spock the wise.

swoon.

i’m spiking my halloween with some spock. yesterday, i bought some materials to make a star trek medical/science officer costume… if i make it to college station this weekend like i’m hoping to with my newly pimped out camera, it’ll get to see the…dark of night. (boo, gloria…boo. thumbs down.) obviously, i took some liberties with the caption on the screen shot below – the actual line was:

please, mr. scott – restrain your leaps of illogic. i have said nothing; i was merely speculating.”

in true form, he followed that winner up with another in seconds:

“my guess, doctor, would be valueless. i suggest we refrain from guessing, and find some facts. spock out.”

true and logical. what a man.

"you know, mr. scott, ladies ask me all the time why i'm so irresistible, and it's one of the few questions i don't know the answer to."

i love bullies.

pit bulls and bully breeds, that is.

a few months ago, i joined houston pit bulls & bully breeds on meetup.com. i wanted to find jenga some new houston friends in lieu of the ones she left behind in college station. geena accompanied me to my first “bully walk” with them at terry hershey park on memorial. since i had my hands full with my pup, geena took some photos of some other canine attendees with my camera. please note: the photos below will not be available on my Flickr, since i did not take them.

river oaks photoshoot.

done, and done.

geena, mandy, and i managed to squeeze in a shoot. we had a quick lunch in chinatown, then headed to mandy’s apartment complex in river oaks. geena supplied the outfits, as well as the styling, and i directed, though we all put our heads and 2 cents together. i do believe geena requested this shoot because she will be selling the clothing online – they are available separately (belts not available). if something has caught your eye, leave her a message at e pluribus geenum. to see all the photos from this shoot, head to my Flickr page.

from what i hear, there will be more [photos + clothes for sale] to come…

brasil for a day.

geena‘s back!

after a summer vacances in france, geena has returned stateside. she came down to visit me for a day and a night to play conversation catch-up and also talk and shoot [pictures of] fashion. we met up with mandy at brasil in montrose on the corner of dunlavy and westheimer for dinner. sadly, due to rain and fast-falling evening, we were unable to get any snaps today, but we’ll try again.

howdy doo-dee!

translation: “hello, how are you?” english; colloquial cartoonish southern-speak.

it’s been a while, and i apologize. as i stated before, my tri-city sweep was downgraded into an extended stay in austin, and an unexpected overnight layover in college station. thanks again to alex s., matt c., and jim for a) babysitting my couch, and b) letting me and jenga crash on it! (sorry again to jim’s uncle, who jenga greeted so warmly in the morning with growls…) of course, thanks also to andrew a., michelle, and jeff for keeping me company! finally, for those of you dying to know, david d. was not in austin, but i did meet up with him in college station, and he did love his shirt. sweet amateur success! sadly, i didn’t get to take clever photos as i had planned, but as usual, i did score some sweet…erm…swag (not a reference to flora).

my cup runneth over in retail luck lately – the post before last documented my being able to check off four potential pairs of shoes with the purchase of two, and this past weekend, i was able to check off several more wish list items in the same manner. recent purchase post: in austin, my biggest score was a brand-new-with-tags black lambskin a-line sheath dress. retail (a.k.a. what i did not pay): $150.00. i also landed a pair of barse sterling + turquoise earrings, and a smoky topaz sterling bracelet. back home in houston/sugar land, i nabbed two more sweet deals: 1) a vintage red silk dress with the most amazing pleated sleeves, and 2) my most recent ebay win, a native american sterling slave bracelet, with turquoise + coral accents. it just arrived today, and i was extremely pleased – i recently discovered slave bracelets, which are essentially a ring + bracelet combo, with chains connecting the two, usually with a decorative piece breaking up the chains in the middle. i’ve kept my eyes peeled on ebay for the last few months; these things run anywhere between $40.00 – $180.00 (not including shipping), depending on the size and intricacy. they are usually pricey due to the fact that most are handmade – obviously, one-of-a-kind pieces will run for more. of course, there are also peruvian slave bracelets, and gypsy slave bracelets – but the former are usually made of alpaca silver, which is lower-grade and lower-quality than standard 0.925 sterling, and the latter is also a cheaper, lighter-weight metal, and usually gold tone. in other words, if you are interested in getting your hands on one (pun!), i’d say the native american versions are more worth the coin.

in other news, i was unable to attend the summer-fest music festival going on in houston today and tomorrow – tickets are supposedly upwards of $20+/day now; should-woulda-coulda. damn. next year, next year. have fun without me, bryan, jim, and jaci (via twitter)

news that trumps all though, is that of my FINALLY receiving geena “the truth/honest abe” sisomphou’s long-awaited postcard from france. i felt more cultured the moment it was in my trembling hands. geen: it’s hanging on my wall! now all that’s left is to get yourself back here to the states…

“shut up spock, we’re rescuing you!”

…one of my favorite lines from one of my favorite scenes, star trek TOS season 2, episode 18, “the immunity syndrome” – the enterprise crew is attacked by a giant space amoeba, and kirk and mccoy refuse to let spock sacrifice himself when they decide their only course of action is to detonate an anti-matter bomb within the amoeba. such a cute epsiode.

heh heh… anyone who wants to call me a nerd can do so, but i’m sure i can wipe the floor with you in some other “non-nerd” sanctioned topic. in other words, “i’ll verbally punch you in the face”. i’d like to add though, that anyone who hasn’t watched the original series should give it a try – it’s really just an old school “bromance”, in my opinion. so why the star trek mumbo jumbo? well, my circa 1991 spock shirt came in the mail a few days ago, but i was too busy with midterms to enjoy its arrival. so, now that i had a little bit of free time, i took a fun photo documenting my excitement. voila!

gloria “the logic” cheng, with her sidekick in all that is logical.

this got me to thinking…gloria’s good gal pal, geena “the truth” sisomphou, needs a character sidekick as well… any ideas?

magazine jam.

flip, flip…twang!

geena drove down from college station to get her laptop fixed, and bryan was in town from new orleans for westheimer block party, which went down this past weekend. they decided to pop in for some spontaneous guitar-playin’, magazine-perusin’. i haven’t had down time with these creative friends for a while, and it was very welcomed.
