Asbury-Hall Wedding

this past weekend, i was proud and honored to be able to serve as the maid of honor at my best friend kat‘s wedding.

we’ve known each other since 1st grade and have been close friends since middle school – i’ve also grown very fond of her now-husband, wyatte, and am so happy for them both. i wish i could have gotten as many photos as i usually do, but thankfully, they had a much more qualified professional photographer on hand! i can’t say it would have been worth trading being able to really immerse myself in the day – from helping matron of honor joy get kat ready, scrambling to put out the expected little fires, making new and seeing old friends and signing as the happy couple’s witness on their marriage certificate. (oh, and also that part where i blubbered tearfully through my speech…)

wishing love and all the best to the new mr. + mrs. hall!

Legacy Continued.

i had no interest in the royal wedding until this morning when i found out who designed Kate Middleton‘s dress: Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen!
gorgeous dress, still very much in homage to the late, great designer… and that is the extent of my interest.

going green.

ever since dries

i’ve been on the prowl for a bright green coat. i recently managed to snap up a similarly hued apple green silk ralph lauren dress, but no luck on the coat front, so far.

the color does seem to be popping up everywhere…

nouveau mais vieux Dior.

latest wardrobe deposit: vintage christian dior.

i just bought this vintage aqua christian dior dress coat last week – the tags from the shop read, “dress”… but i don’t think so. i realize “robes du soir” means “evening dresses”, but i’ll be wearing it as a coat, thankyouverymuch. the buttons are domed lucite, with what looks to be blue and green sequins or some other sort of reflective metallic material inside. yes, i did have second (and third) thoughts about buying it, but i think if i wear something very simple under it, and one piece of or no jewelery, i should be able to pull it off… fingers crossed!

the coat is in pristine condition - the only "repair" i had to do was re-attach the right upper corner of the label.

galliano noir, deux.

i have been a bit behind in posting my recent purchases… so here goes.

1. john galliano black wool jacket w/ silk lining + full-length skirt:

– newest purchase, literally. i just bought this today, and it is also one of the newer (read: non-vintage) pieces in my closet.  the high-waist, black wool + silk skirt is as gorgeous as the jacket; it is extremely and insanely long, and floats away from the body as you move. it has detailed, body-conscious darting in the back, as well as a 14-button closure. no zippers.

2. vintage adrienne vittadini black silk + sequin dress:

3. vintage black lace cocktail dress:

– the lace skirt of this dress has a beautiful scalloped edge that extends a little over the lining. the seam along the right side of the skirt was torn about 6 inches, but i easily stitched it back together.

4. vintage yves saint laurent moss green leather jacket:

– this is such an unusual color for a leather jacket, and is unbelievably soft.

5. vintage cream knee-length mink coat:

– you can’t tell from the photo, but this coat is in need of some restoration. there is a long split in the pelt on one sleeve, and there are two or three additional  very small separations between pelts here and there. the condition of the fur itself, however, is excellent – super soft, with no stains, bald patches, or signs of wear along the pockets, collar, sleeves, or hem. (these are all things you should check for or ask about before purchasing a vintage fur!) i called sakowitz to get a quote on how much a repairs would cost, and after presenting my find at the register, was given a rewarding discount. hopefully this coat will be getting some much deserved TLC soon!

6. afghan handmade silver-over-bronze lapis necklace:

– i was told that the owner of the shop i bought this from purchased this in person on a trip to afghanistan several years ago.

7. vintage yves saint laurent gold tone belt buckle:

– whoops! almost forgot this one… (below par photo taken with my blackberry).
